So proud of all the boys tonight, especially for the way they dealt with cynical fouls including numerous challenges from behind with both feet off the ground.
The ref did nothing, apart from trying to give them a penalty when the linesman was flagging for a free kick outside the area.
It got so bad that we threatened to take our boys off and forfeit the game...their safety is paramount.
Anyway, onto the game.....
They'd only lost 1 previous game all season, on the opening day, but we played them off the pitch.
They had 2 giants who couldn't trap a bag of cement between them, and just lumped the ball forward. So easy to deal with, sitting with a deep defensive line, well protected by our CDM for when they did get forward.
Ezra got us into the lead within the 1st few minutes, from a lovely assist from SamF.
We got caught out not communicating properly at the back to fall 2-1 behind, but Ezra scored a wonderful solo goal to take us into the break at 2-2.
We spoke about the need to box them into their own half during the 2nd half of the game, and forcing them to play out from the back, because they simply couldn't do it.
During the break a few of the boys mentioned overhearing how the opposition were terrified of Ezras ball skills. This led to a large number of the most disgusting tackles I've seen in 7 yrs of coaching and I'm really surprised Ezra wasn't seriously hurt...some of them were straight red cards.
Nothing fazes this kid though, he just gets up and keeps playing, and completed his hatrick after an assist from Ruben.
The challenge now is to take these levels into every game, especially next season when we go 11v11.
