Social Captain ‘26

Michelle (Shells) Bailey

I would love the opportunity to serve as Social Captain for Poole Gig Rowing Club, bringing enthusiasm, commitment and fresh ideas to help strengthen our club community both on and off the water. I have already enjoyed taking an active role in organising social events and fundraising activities, including our Quiz Night fundraiser and the two Deck Breakfasts I ran over the summer, helping to bring members together while raising valuable funds for the club. I am keen to build on these experiences by organising our Christmas social, the Winter Solstice Row and other events that create lasting memories and strengthen friendships across the club.

With the exciting plans for our clubhouse refurbishment, I also see a fantastic opportunity to develop the social side of the club even further. I have lots of ideas for combining rowing with social activities, creating events that bring people together before and after rows and making greater use of our clubhouse as a welcoming hub for the whole membership. I would love to help create a vibrant social calendar that encourages members to spend more time together, builds friendships across different crews and makes our club an even more enjoyable place to be.

I have also completed my passage planning course with Matt, furthering my knowledge and understanding of our sport, and have offered to undertake cox training over the winter to broaden my skills and contribute more to the club. In addition, I have offered to attend newbie, foundation and junior rows to support our newer members, encourage participation and help everyone feel welcomed and included from the very start of their PGRC journey.

I believe a strong social calendar, combined with a supportive and inclusive club culture, is vital to keeping members engaged, celebrating our achievements and ensuring Poole Gig Rowing Club remains a fantastic community to be part of. I would love to play my part in building on what we already have, embracing the exciting opportunities ahead and helping make PGRC a club where everyone feels welcome, connected and proud to belong.
