Christmas Club Development Update - and thank you!
As we approach the end of the year, we wanted to share a short update on club development and to thank everyone who has supported Oban Lorne RFC through a busy and, at times, challenging 2025.
On the development front, two of our four new floodlights are now installed, with groundworks currently underway for the remaining two, which are scheduled to be installed in January. All work has been carried out properly and with full planning permission, and we continue to work closely with Argyll and Bute Council to ensure everything is done correctly and transparently.
We have also recently had a site visit from Scottish Environment Protection Agency, who were satisfied that works are being managed appropriately and that the club is committed to doing things properly - now and in the future.
We are all volunteers, doing our best to improve the rugby club and deliver something positive for the wider community. While rugby naturally drives much of what we do, we are serious about developing a facility with wider multi-sport and community use, and we are not against or competing with any other sports or clubs.
Importantly, conversations are happening with other clubs and stakeholders, facilitated by governing bodies and sportscotland, and we remain fully committed to open, respectful dialogue. We are open, transparent, and always willing to talk.
We also recently held a Volunteer Open Day, and the response was hugely encouraging. Many people came forward offering help - from admin support and youth team social media, to minibus drivers and matchday roles. This will make a real difference to how the club operates going forward.
As always, a massive thank you to all our volunteers, players, coaches, sponsors and supporters. Everything achieved this year - on and off the pitch - has only been possible because of your time, effort and belief in the club.
There is still a long way to go, but we are proud of how far we’ve come and optimistic about what lies ahead. From everyone at the club, we wish the Oban community a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
