Away (but home) - Staines & Laleham U11 Blues

Away game (but home rivalry against the S&L Blues) at Thamesmead School. Grass pitch was a little slow and bobbly, but generally good. Weather was dry, overcast and still.

Well played Whites. I thought the Blues started stronger, but we came back into the game, We could have easily got a draw or win but the result was probably fair in the end. Our goals were great.

I thought they looked sharp from Midfield into Attack. They often broke with 3-4 and passed well. In defence we were often back-tracking and covering each other, rather than starting in a better position and marking a person each goal side.

We also did this very well, and always look like we can score many goals from this. however, today we somewhat lacked chances and passes close to the opposition goal, those passes across that result in a tap-in. More dynamic passing may have given us more opportunity here.

In dribbles, we may have held onto the ball one or two second longer than we should have. We turned and often ran into trouble, meaning our attacked was turned-over for them to have a go at us. Remember passing requires team mates to make runs into good receiving positions. If we stop passing, they stop running and it all becomes very flat. Mix it up and no-one will know what we'll do next!

Our passing also seemed a bit laboured and slower than usual - could have been down to the pitch a bit. Passes often found their destination but the game was slowed as a result. Snappy, direct passing and control in receiving would have resulted in us being much more DYNAMIC.

Be careful with tackles. Sometimes just keep tracking back an intercept line between player and goal caused them to stop or mis-shoot. Having a go at an iffy tackle usually gives away a foul, or if missed gives opposition an open shot at goal. Just track back and be a nuisance...

Preston: excellent game in goal. Your saves were at least worth two goals and your distribution was excellent; I can't recall a pass being intercepted. Very worthy of the Man of the Match.
