Boys U11's Lightning - Ambleside Sharks
Ambleside Sharks 6 v 3 Stockton U11 Lightning
After the game it was hard for the boys to raise their spirits, I know they were all exhausted. But we’re all incredibly proud of them.
We knew we we would be missing 2 lads, and then to be hit with 2 more suffering from sickness on the morning, left us with 6 players, taking on the match with a player down.
The boys adapted to a reshuffling of the formation and due to discipline, hard work and skill found themselves 2-0 up. Two fine goals and lots of chances created, amazingly Lightning were on top controlling the game. Ambleside got 2 goals just before half time, against the run of play, but it still seemed incredible to be at 2-2 at the break.
Unfortunately we conceded 3 quick goals in 5 minutes in the second half. The opposition offered to lend us a player, but we decided to hold off and keep faith in the squad, which was proved to be the right decision as we scored again and at 5-3 it looked possible to get back to a result with Stockton doing the pressing.
Ultimately everyone was running out of energy and The Sharks got a late goal to give in many ways a deceptive scoreline.
The boys were told to take it as a free hit, and whatever the result was it didn’t matter, but of course, with a competitive mindset there was still some dejection. They certainly don’t need to feel like that, and I’m sure anyone watching for Stockton couldn’t be more pleased with them.
Thank you for everyone’s effort and wishing anyone with illness to get well soon. We will be back stronger next week.
Awards- I don’t think we’ve ever done this before, but parents and coaches awards go to everyone in the team today.
