Boys U15 (2011) Major 1 - Derry Rovers

Hat trick hero Matthew Courtney was the star of the show as Naas U15 M1 romped to a resounding 8-1 victory over Derry Rovers.
Naas had been unlucky to lose both of their opening games this season. So a victory in this weekend’s fixture was vital. A feature of the first two games had been the team’s difficultly in getting off to a good start and this fixture was no different. After 10 minutes of very poor play by Naas, Derry broke away and scored as Sean Carey’s attempt at a clearance went high into the roof of the net giving Naas keeper Thady Ryan no chance. In the minutes after conceding Naas started to come more into the game and equalised a few minutes later from another own goal. From that moment on Naas dominated the game and went 2-1 up as Matthew Courtney scored his first of three in a superb performance from the striker. Naas went 3-1 up before half time with a fantastic strike from Niko Dziabor from outside the box.
The second half saw further goals from Courtney (2), Ruairi McFadden and Big Sean Savage who worked his socks off for the entire game and deserved his goal. But the moment of the game came when keeper Thady Ryan who had come out to join the outfield efforts and scored the eighth and final goal of the game after going one on one with the opposing keeper before running off celebrating like Marco Tardelli in the 1982 World Cup final!
A fantastic performance all round (apart from those first 10 minutes) and hopefully something to build on.
