U15 Calcio Select - DQ Football
U15s Lost 3-2. Against top of the league unbeaten DQ Football.
Really tough one for the lads to take, as we concede two late goals. After doing so well in the game leading it for 70 mins. It was a bit of a scrappy game. We were right up against it from the start. Missing 5 key players. And only having 2 subs meant we had to play differently today with our press and managing players fitness. But the boys didn’t make this an excuse and stuck together and fought as individuals and as a team on the pitch. The boys really had to dig in defensively, as the opposition controlled majority of the possession. As they had loads of confidence going into it with 3 wins from 3.
We started really positively, going 1-0 up from a goal that came from our press that we worked on at training. Then they caused us a few problems in wide areas with how they set up, we combated it well in the 2nd & 3rd quarter by changing formations. Which worked well. We went 2-0 up with a goal from Harry.
In the 3rd & 4th quarters, the manner of the game changed a bit, as the opposition were starting to make some dirty and aggressive challenges, against a couple of our players who came off injured and we had to adjust with players tasked with playing in different positions than they are used to. I also timed the 3rd & 4th quarter and both seemed to last around 25 mins each quarter.
Overall, despite the frustration at the end. I was and the players should be proud of the effort & attitude shown today from a defensive perspective, it’s the best I’ve seen them defend 👏
