Brentwood Golden Boot Festival - Harlow Under 16 Festival

Sunday 10th October 2021– Brentwood Golden Boot

It was festival time at Brentwood this Sunday with many of the top teams from across Essex in attendance.  The Brentwood Golden Boot Festival is a competitive tournament where teams are playing to win.

The winners of each group faced off in a semi-final then into the final for the Golden Boot. Runners up of each group went into a semi-final then final of the plate and 3rd place went into a semi-final then final of the Bowl.

Games were 10 minutes each way (12 mins each way in the semi-final and final and refereed by independent referees.

The groups were:

  • Group A: Brentwood, Witham, Westcliff
  • Group B: Old Brentwoods, Eton Manor (Old Verulamians failed to attend)
  • Group C: Sevenoaks, Woodford, Upminster
  • Group D: Basildon, Harlow, Maldon

Harlow v Basildon 0 - 19

Harlow started off a little slowly conceding two tries in the first half and one in the second half. All conversions were kick from behind the posts.

Harlow v Maldon 0 - 42

Our second game was played just ten minutes after the first and against a Maldon team who were raring to go. In the first half they scored five tries and in the second half they scored just scored one.

Bowl: Semi final: Harlow v Woodford 7 -21

This put us through to the bowl competition an hour and half after our previous game and to face a Woodford side with just 14. We matched them for numbers in the spirit of rugby. In the first half the pressure Harlow put on Woodford pinned them in their own half near to the line. Harlow crossed the line with a break down the right where Kai Young managed to off load to Ben Ferrier who crossed the line. Converted by Kai Young.

Tries: Ben Ferrier Conversions: Kai Young

A big hand to the squad who played today, with many positional changes and new members of the squad Jacob Heald made his Harlow debut, Rhys Eynon from our under 15s provided backs cover. In the final game the squad showed some real team belief keeping out a determined Woodford team pounding the line. From here we learn, we are still on the same journey we were on last week and we work to get better as individuals and as a team.

Next week Harlow Under 16s play Wanstead away in a league game. This been a tough fixture for Harlow over the years and we once again will look to show how we have become skilful rugby players.

Thank you to Tobie for washing the shirts this week and Ed Lea for providing us with a gazebo we could take shelter in between games and keep our kit dry.
