U9s Azzuri 3-1 win against Goole Tigers
Not our best performance. But got a well deserved Win. I thought sometimes we needed to use the ball quicker and make better angles off the ball to support our teammates when playing out or when our wingers get the ball. Also, at times we needed to scan more before we got the ball, this would help us make better decisions on the ball, find the free player and not always force the ball forwards when it wasn’t on.
However, there was loads of positives from the game, when we did use the ball it worked really well. Playing through or around their press. There were many great examples in the game when we did this well Using either the Gk to restart the attack or switching the play to the other CB to create attacks. Our 3rd goal was a brilliant example of great combination play. Making quick decisions, scanning & finding the free player. This brilliant team goal starting from a goal kick from Rua playing out to Ralph who did an great 1st touch eliminate and played a good through ball, intercepted from their defender, Max reacted well to regain possession and pass into Ollie and make a forward run, Ollie played fast into Ethan who played a well timed and weighted 1st time pass into max who produced a very tidy finish.
Also our high pressing, shape and structure was really good at times. We also kept getting loads of success winning the ball high. With our 2nd goal being a good example winning the ball from their goal kick. With our wingers starting narrow - protecting the middle of the pitch and Ollie doing some great defending from behind. Won the ball for us and played a great pass into Ethan’s path, who produced a great strike to make it 2-1 in the game. This nicely follows onto next weeks training topic, where we look at High pressing 🙌
