Calcio Select U10 Vs Yorkshire RTC Blue U10

In horrendous conditions the boys showed true grit and determination but were beaten on the day by an aggressive Yorkshire RTC Blue side 12-5.
The first period was a tough one to watch, with Calcio starting sluggishly with our man to man marking responsibilities. The majority of their goals today came from us not tracking our man resulting in an overload for their forwards. This is something we have identified and noted on the player IDPs this week, which the wingers will no doubt have already discussed feedback with parents!
After a quick chat at the break and reinforcing the message of aggressive man marking and defensive duels, we were much better for the remainder of the match. We created lots of high quality chances, with play typically going through Harry/Isaac/Artie in midfield, finding Freddie and Lewen in good positions in their half. Their manager said they don’t often concede multiple goals in games and that we shook them a bit in the second half. Small positives to be taken here.
Coaches Man of the Match was a tough one for me to decide today. Freddie put a big shift in pressing in a -1. Isaac contributed 3 goal involvements including a stunning goal (so I’m told, I missed it whilst checking in on Shack’s head injury!). But for me, Lewen also contributed 3 goal involvements and really pressed and harried and got us going when we needed it the most – a MoM performance in tough conditions. Onto next week!
