U10 Calcio Talent & Select - First Touch Black U10
In what served to be the deciding game for the winter league title, Calcio FC beat First Touch FC Black 5-2 ending the phase with a record of four wins from four.
A frantic opening 5 mins saw poor defending from both sides, leading to them opening the scoring on 4’ and Lewen’s fantastic solo effort on the counter on 5’. Our central midfield started to get a grip of the game, returning to our man for man +1 principles in the engine room, allowing us to put together a good number of chances. Dylan converted what was perhaps the most difficult of those chances with a contender for goal of the season on 14’. Lewen cut the ball back from the byline to Dylan outside the area who produced a lovely, curled effort, in off the post top bins. 2-1 at the break.
We discussed pressing intensity and our man marking responsibilities at the break and the boys responded in the way they usually do; executing the instructions well. After another period of chance after chance, we finally converted one on 27’. A penetrating through ball from Isaac to Freddie who’s touch took it away from goal and perhaps weakened the chance. Except Freddie is capable of hitting the top corner from anywhere on the pitch - and that’s exactly what he did.
The remainder of the match saw us dominate with the lion’s share of possession. We should’ve perhaps scored more than two more in the game with some good chances going begging. Freddie and Jude did manage to convert their chances, adding to the scoresheet.
Big shout out to Austin today who turned in his best performance in a Calcio shirt to date, showing glimpses of what I know this guy is capable of – including a penalty save. PoM in a strange game that could’ve/should’ve been 10-2 and one of those that you pray your keeper has a good day!
