RP U7 NL 2025/2026 (Regents Park League) - Priory Park
The match was very tight throughout the game.
We tried the build-up from the goalkeeper to the sides, which we practiced in training, and most of these attempts were successful. Because of this, we had fewer situations where we were stuck in the back, and we reduced turnovers that usually led to easy goals for the opponent.
It was also good to see the goalkeeper’s decision-making and saving ability improving. The defenders also tried to spread wide to receive the ball, which showed that they were applying what we worked on in training. This was already a big positive from this match. We were able to reach the halfway line more easily, and there were also confident dribbling moments where players beat the opponent’s defenders. This showed growing confidence and improvement.
However, there were still moments where communication between players was lacking. Sometimes, the goalkeeper and defenders did not communicate, which led to easy goals. There were also situations where two or three players followed the same opponent, and sometimes teammates tried to take the ball from each other.
Also, some players gave up chasing too easily after losing the ball, or were not aggressive enough when trying to win the ball back. A few players still need to work harder to return to defend.
For the next training sessions, we will focus on improving attackers’ wide movements and developing better combination play between defenders and attackers so that we can reach the opponent’s penalty box more effectively. If we improve step by step and become more comfortable attacking towards the opponent’s goal, we will create many more chances.
I was also very proud to see the players not drop their heads after conceding and continue running and fighting until the end.
See you at training.
