Boys U12's Thunder - Grove Farm Spartans

Stockton welcomed Grove Farm for a friendly in lovely sunny conditions. In their previous encounters, Grove had run out winners at home and Stockton had been victorious when they hosted. This would hopefully mean today would be an even contest.

Stockton Thunder lined up with Zack in goal(for the first time), Yaz, Ollie C, and Jack at the back, Frederick, William, Ethan and Reuben in midfield and Mason upfront.

An even first half saw chances for both sides. Thunder linked play in midfield really well and released the ball wide quickly to create openings via Fred and Reuben on the flanks. Reuben and Ethan forced good saves from the keeper and Mason rattled the post.

Yaz, Jack and Ollie worked well as a three and cleared most attacks. Zack mopped up what got through well and made a fine save low to his left post.

In the second half, the game opened up a little bit more and there was opportunity to exploit the space. Thunder were the dominant side in the first ten and after a number of nearly moments deservedly took the lead when William regained possession. Reuben found himself free in a pocket of space and unleashed a fine strike which bested the 'keeper.

Grove Farm equilised when a bit of pinball in the box caused confusion resulting in a penalty. Despite this setback Thunder continued to be the better side and pushed for a winner. Harry whose minutes were being managed was subbed in and out throughout the game. His intelligent movement created space for himself and others but Thunder couldn't quite find that final killer ball.

In the final stages the game became very open and either side could have scored on the counter. In the end a score draw, which was probably a fair result at the end of a very enjoyable game.

CPOTM: Reuben was a constant threat on the wing and demonstrated good link up play. Scored a fine goal, worked hard and remained positive throughout the match.

PPOTM: Zack impressed in goal. His decision making was good, he handled the ball confidently and made some smart saves.
