HOME - U11's Girls Lionesses vs SoccerRockz

Very cold morning but dry ish for a change at home vs Soccerocks.

The pitch had been cut and was perfect pitch for the girls, the only problem was the strong wind which we were against in the first half.

The game started evenly with both teams playing some nice football along with some tough tackling making it a joy to watch.

Our opponents took advantage of the wind and some long throws which created a few chances for them. We defended pretty well overall and Myanna played well in her defensive role, listening to the coaches and getting in some great interceptions.

Peyton was in central midfield and was all action captain once again, making some great tackles, nice footwork and good leadership. Towards the end of the first half, we had a really good move involving Peyton who passed to Elysia in her own half who then made a terrific weaving run down the left past two players, cutting in only loose her balance when about to shoot. Would have been some goal had that gone in !

The half ended with Soccerocks two goals to the good. We started the second half with the wind in our favour, which we spoke about trying to use to our advantage.  Layla nearly got us back in the game after the goalie spilled a shot, but agonisingly put her shot wide.

Stockton did get back in the game following a corner from the left from Erin who put a good ball into the front post area, which was turned into the goal by a Soccerocks defender.

We have been trying to teach the girls some different corner set pieces / movement and the front post ball is one of them. We will be looking at these in more detail once we are back on the grass training, along with throw-ins.

Soccerocks shortly after created a two-goal cushion again but we fought back with a goal from Layla to make it an entertaining last 6 mins.  An equaliser wasn’t to be today but equally a good game for everyone to be involved in.

After the game we discussed the importance of reacting to situations during the game, such as quick throws, quick freekicks and getting the ball quickly if it our corner !!  We will discuss again as a group when we are back training after Easter, as these skills can make a difference !!

Bella didn’t have a great deal to do but was good with her handling and kicking ! Well done Bells !

Midfield worked hard with Mona, Mimi and Elysia putting in good performances alongside Peyton.

Strikers Layla, Erin & Jess all worked hard without too many clear-cut chances created, Layla added to her tally for the season ! Keep it up Layla 😊

Good work overall and thanks to all who came along and supported ! Can’t win them all !

Hoping to get some 9 a-side games pencilled in before the end of the season for midweek / training nights if we can.
