Girls U16’s - Coventry Godiva
A fast start from Stockton 5 minutes gone Izzy was played in down the left by Violet. She received the ball well beat a player and crossed. Lois met the ball perfectly and smashed a first time finish into the net. 6 minutes later a lovely one two between Izzy and Lily G put Izzy through for a 2-0 lead. Just a minute later a poor goal kick followed by a couple of errors let Godiva in to pull a goal back with a smart finish.
On 18 minutes Leah played in Izzy down the left who cut in and hit a great shot over the keeper into the top right corner. We forced a corner on 20 minutes and the ball broke out of the box. Rosie collected the ball and finished from 2 metres outside the box. Stockton kept up the pressure and Jess added another goal for 5-1. There was still time for Izzy to complete her hat trick before half time after being played in by Violet.
The second half started or at least Coventry did and it seemed as though Stockton had fallen asleep. After 3 minutes of the half Coventry were awarded a penalty and duly finished it. We struggled for the next 10 or so minutes but then started to work our way back into the game. Louis picked the ball up deep in the opposition half and played Izzy in for her 4th of the match.
Rosie scored her second late on in the half. Scarlett had worked tirelessly up and down the wings for the whole game and was eventually rewarded with a goal with only 7 minutes remaining. Jess finished the scoring adding her 2nd and Stockton’s 10th tirelessly chasing down the right. She hit a hard low cross to the far post and it went straight in.
A fantastic performance by the whole team.
As a closing note I would like to praise Coventry Godiva for not letting their heads go down and battling hard until the final whistle.
