Boys U16 (2011) Major 2 - Newbridge United

Another game where the score doesn't really reflect the dominance of this squad. It was 4-1 at a late stage of the second half and credit to Newbridge who never stopped trying and managed to get it to 5-4 with the last attack they had.

And just like last week, the composure on display was a joy. When this team play football, they play great football. Fionán conducted the orchestra from midfield and his pass for Niko's first goal was a joy to behold. He also chipped in with a goal. So did Sean Savage who always seems to get his goal. He should have had at least another one but he'll know that already.

Sam O'Malley was quickest in a scramble from a corner to smash home the equaliser after about 10 minutes and the lads just kicked on from there. It was plain to see a few games ago that Niko was lacking sharpness and that his touch would come. He scored twice today and almost 12 hours later I still can't decide which was the better finish. The outside of the boot push of the ball past the keeper to let it roll into the net or spotting the keeper was out of position and finishing from 25 yards. He reminds me in so many ways of prime Fernando Torres.

Plenty to look forward to going into our next game!
