Lenzie RFC Vs Oban Lorne RFC

Oban Lorne Women with a 22 strong squad travelled away to Lenzie RFC this Sunday to play their final game of the season. With Oban sitting first in the league and Lenzie sitting a close second it was all to play for as they kicked off on a soggy aptly named Boghead pitch with the rain lashing down. Oban received the kick off and immediately worked their way into the Lenzie 22 with massive forward carries from Alanna MacKenzie and Julie Campbell, Oban were dominant and well collected. Lenzie showing true grit and determination keeping Oban off their try line for a full 15 minutes and made them work hard to find any gap. Forwards and backs worked hard to use the whole of the pitch whilst Kirsty Sinclair provided unmatched power crashed into the Lenzie defensive line. Backed by the unrivalled rucking power of Jodi Millar and Rebekah Palmer. Oban crossed the try line 3 times for each one to be deemed as held up. Lenzie kicked for the line to gain possession only to be stollen by Jordan MacIntyre as she dominated every line out all day long. Oban continued to hammer Lenzies defences as Lindsay MacMillan picked off the back of a ruck scrambling the defence and allowing Poppy McKillip to run in Oban’s first points of the game supported by Amy Gibson.

As the ground conditions worsened mistakes started to creep in as both sides struggled to gain any traction. Oban received a yellow for a high tackle just before the end of the first half. Some key changes started the second half with fresh legs as Isla MacGillivray coming back from injury made her presence known with some big tackles. Ailsa McCuish retuned to the pitch and reset the Oban attack, pushing forwards with help from wingers Katie Hamllton and Katie MacCorquodale using their pace to stretch the Lenzie defence. Evie Kellet saw the gap and took her opportunity to add to the score line with Ellie Macinnes adding the extras. Some slippy conditions saw Oban receive another yellow card as Rebekah lost her feet in a ruck and Oban were down to 14 for another 10 minutes. Rallying together Caitlin Fowler took some big hits as Oban broke the line again and again and Lindsay MacMillan claimed another 5 points for Oban. With the clock ticking down and Oban made one last push with powerful running from Chloe Malcolm as she took Lenzies defensive line with her. The forward pack thundered up the pitch skilfully directed by Rachel Macdonald. Finally Evie Kellet seized her second try of the day with Ellie MacInnes adding the extras bringing the score to 0-24 in Oban’s favour. With the game not over and Lenzie in possession Elaine Mitchell took to the pitch and along with Arden Binnie helped to hold the attackers at bay. Rachel Carre and Drew Buckley directing from the wings made sure that there were not gaps for Lenzie as the clock ran out. Final score 0-24 as Oban win West Division 2 and remain undefeated.
