Match Report
Kick-off was slightly delayed due to some equipment issues, though the problem was quickly solved with the help of a conveniently located Sports Direct just ten minutes away.
Stockton lined up with Cai in goal, with Jack, William and Fred across the back. Oliver played just ahead of the defence, while Ethan and Mason operated in midfield.
Despite the numerical handicap, Stockton made a strong start to the game and showed early attacking intent. Their positive approach paid off when Oliver’s initial effort was saved by the goalkeeper, but Ethan reacted quickly to convert the rebound and give Thunder the lead.
Yaz soon entered the field, allowing Fred to move forward into midfield. However, the early Stockton goal appeared to spark Nuneaton into life, and a quick flurry of goals saw the hosts equalise before moving into the lead.
Stockton responded well to the setback and regrouped for the remainder of the half, defending with great determination. William, Jack and Yaz produced a series of important tackles and blocks to limit further opportunities and keep the scoreline manageable.
Half-time
Nuneaton began the second half brightly and, despite some excellent claims and brave blocks from Cai in goal, were able to extend their lead.
As the half progressed, Ethan and Mason continued to attack with purpose despite being outnumbered in midfield. For the second week running, Thunder produced a move of such quality that the opposition goalkeeper ended up on the floor trying to recover. This time, Stockton made it count as Mason calmly rolled the ball across for Ethan to tap in. Soon after, Oliver fed Ethan again, allowing him to complete an impressive hat-trick.
At the other end, Stockton still had to withstand significant pressure. Fred continued the aggressive defensive form he showed the previous week, repeatedly disrupting attacks down the right flank. Oliver also played a key role in cutting out passes through the middle and linking defence and attack effectively whenever Thunder regained possession.
