Boys U16 (2010) Major - Sallins Celtic

Tough match on a windy Friday night in kerdiffstown park Astro . We hoped to win the toss as the wind was extreme in one direction for the kick off but it wasn’t to be. Between the strong winds and the gangs of NCC fools on the touchline and behind the goals it made for a difficult conditions for both teams , but it had a far greater effect on Naas then Sallins as Naas were second to every ball. Except for the back four all our lads were strolling and flat footed .
Early on Donncha Hickey was through one on one and keeper stayed strong for the block and Oisin Kempell had a shot narrowly go over the bar .
Sallins struck first with a shot helped with the wind high into the net and then a hoofed clearance from the midfield went straight up into the air caught by the wind and into the goal . 2 goals aided by the wind but were stoppable for the goalie . The third was from lack of press in the area and midfielder and wingers not working to get back and track their men , a shot from the edge of the box no pressure straight in , 3-0 down half time .
2nd half and Naas came out a different side hard work from Filip Frackowiak and Patrick Gordon won us a bit of fight in the game . Filip grabbing a hard worked goal early on to get us in the game . With Sallins on the back foot Mateusz Nowocian swung a corner straight into the goal with keeper struggling. Naas had their tails up with 10 mins left and before we could get another attack a ball into our box , which keeper slid to claim and someone let it go and gifted Sallins a goal against the run of play knocking the stuffing out of the lads .
Sallins by far the deserving winners as they showed far more fight and we’ll pick ourselves up and find the positives to get back on track against a tough opponent next week .
Standouts for Naas were the back four of Sean O’Reilly
Xabi Gray , Jan Wojciechowski and Tom Hobbins
Worked hard under pressure throughout.
