U12s Calcio Rosso vs Doncaster Elite AFC

A brilliant performance resulted in romping 9-2 win over Doncaster elite.

It took only 4 minutes to break the deadlock, as Miles intercepted a free kick and played a ball over the defence for Marcus. He wasn't able to reach the initial ball, but after the keeper spilled it he was easily able to find the empty net.

Two minutes later, Hugo played a ball through for Miles who absolutely smashed it in from out wide to go 2-0 up.

The next goal came after 15 minutes: Freddie played a pass to Lenny in the middle, who takes a couple of touches, goes past the defender and toe pokes it into the far corner from just outside the area. 3-0.

Two minutes later Calcio added a fourth: Hugo hit a good shot from the edge of the area, only for the Doncaster goalkeeper to make a great save. However, Marcus showed a striker's instincts to follow it up and make the game 4-0 after the first quarter.

Not a huge amount happened in the second quarter. Calcio were the better team, and made some chances and conceded few, but neither side managed to score, so we went into halftime 4-0 up.

The third quarter was our worst of the game, as we perhaps showed some complacency and stopped playing our best football. Three minutes in a long kick out of Doncaster's goalkeeper's hands bounced in the middle of the pitch and caused chaos, getting in behind the backline and allowing them to pull one back shortly after halftime.

Shortly afterwards, things started to look a bit sketchy, as despite being dominant for the majority of the game, Doncaster got back within two, as a free kick from distance bounced around in the box before being tapped in for 4-2.

Fortunately, this seemed to wake us up a bit, as with a Doncaster player shouting that we were "stressed", we won a corner, which Freddy played the short to Hugo on the right hand edge of the box. With a beautiful strike with his left foot, Hugo smashed the ball perfectly into the top corner for 5-2.

Then, just before the quarter was up, Hugo was involved again, as he collected the ball in the middle and slid in Miles on the left hand side. He had a good first shot but the keeper made a great save. However, he was quick to follow up his own shot, and added another goal to make it 6-2 with twenty minutes to go.

6 minutes into the final quarter, Rufus started a quick attack by throwing the ball out to Miles quite wide on the pitch, who having taken a brilliant touch drove in centrally. A ball into Hugo allowed him to play a brilliant through ball for Fletcher who calmly finished into the corner. 7-2.

6 minutes later, Freddie scored a similar goal, as having run in behind, he gave the keeper no chance. 8-2.

Then, with the final play of the game, Calcio made it 9-2. During the second phase from a corner, the ball was bouncing around the edge of the box for ages. It was Fletcher who came out on top, with his tackle dropping at Marcus' feet to score with the last kick of the game, smashing the ball into the top corner.

A great performance then, as Calcio deservedly won 9-2. The whole squad can be proud of their performance, and should look forward to the next game.
