Leeds UFCA U16 - Liam Palmers 16s

Picking up where we left off last season.

The 16s UFCA squad travelled to Worksop on Saturday for their opening JPL fixture of the 26/27 season.

Having played Palmers in pre season and winning comfortably they understandably set up to try and frustrate us by sitting a bit deeper in a very compact shape. They didn’t look to press high which meant we had to break them down with patience and purpose whilst avoiding turnovers and allowing them to try and hit us on the transition.

First Goals from Rory Coller-Booth, Micah Lewis and Lucca Delafield gave us a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into half time before the ref (who was wearing a Liam palmer top) didnt see their striker stood 10 yards offside and allowed him to run 1 on 1 with Alfie in goal and ultimately score with a decent finish.

6 changes at half time to ensure all players were getting their competitive legs moving again in ‘proper’ football following a good pre season. The boys kicked on in possession whilst also being a bit more open out of possession. Goals from Aaron Herberts (3) and a Will Randall penalty saw us hit 7 on the day. We conceded 2 goals in the second half which is a good reminder to stay switched on and focused for the full 80mins

Great to see Micah Lewis make his debut after joining in the summer. Workrate and desire was exemplary and he fits right in to the group.

Hat-Trick Herbert’s. Aaron score 3 goals in the second half with some excellent finishing.

A good solid performance to start the season but certainly more to come from the group as we gear towards the start of the league on the 26th September.
