Denmark’s largest social sports media currently prepares for its international launch.

If you play football, handball, or any other sport, it’s highly likely that you have knowledge of SportMember.

330.000 people are currently using the popular sports application, which manages players, the calendar, participation of matches, penalty fines, red and yellow cards, your homepage, and membership payments. Everything in a kind of ‘digital club’.

This social sports media, which is the largest in Denmark – with a usage amount that has experienced a 1000% growth since 2010, will now receive a larger million value investment, from the two investors Rasmus and Mads Dissing Pedersen, that have acquired 25% of the SportMember shares.

“The investment is to be used for major growth in the coming years”, the manager and founder Frank Bjergø explains.

”The investment will us a great opportunity for expansion, and will therefore facilitate growth. We have a strong customer base in the Danish market, but we also have ambitions of expanding beyond Denmark’s borders” He announces in a press statement.

The newly invested capital in SportMember, is certainly made immediate use of. The marketing budget is greatly increased, and a variety of country managers are employed, that will ensure a strong development into the various new foreign markets.

In the future, sportsmen from the USA, the United Kingdom, and Sweden, will have access to the SportMember service, which is adjusted for the individual countries. Previously, SportMember has been successfully launched in Spain, Austria and Germany – where the growth, according to Frank Bjergø, has had the same speed as in Denmark.

”We have always been experiencing growth in SportMember, but it is obvious, that we can now speed up the growth process greatly. We can make the organisation wider and to a greater extent focus on growth and not just income” he comments.

Rasmus Dissing Pedersen, one of the two new shareholders of SportMember, firmly believes in the goal of achieving one million users by the end of 2018.

”We have invested in SportMember, because we can see the enormous potential in the idea and service. We carried out extensive research before the investment, and we can see, that the system functionally and in terms of it’s user-friendliness is far beyond that of its competitors. It is a highly useful tool for players, parents, and club leaders” he says.

SportMember was launched by Frank Bjergø 10 years ago, when it frustrated him, that his team members often forgot to attend matches. So he decided to make life easier for all players and coaches, by developing a digital platform, where the various activities could be coordinated.

The majority of the revenue generated by SportMember comes from advertisement, but the incomes from the various collaboration partners, such as Sport24 and Carlsberg, and the members various premium upgrades such as the membership fee payment collection add-on, are experiencing rapid growth.

SportMember has not yet shown signs of being a highly successful business, as it has experienced deficits in three out of five years.
