Boys U12 (2014) Major - Naas u12 (2014) Prem

A tough draw pitted the Naas Majors against the Naas Prem on 18 July. A huge thanks goes to the U11 players Rory, Finn, Charlie and Freddie, who stepped up to help the Majors field a strong squad with both Naas teams fighting to reach the next stage of the cup. The match exploded into a frantic, high‑tempo opening, with both sides flying forward inside the first five minutes. It was evenly balanced early on, Matthew quickly made his mark down the right, driving at defenders and helping Naas Majors win their second corner of the game. In midfield, Eoghan and Rory began to take control. They broke up a dangerous Naas Prem attack inside the box, switched play superbly, and sent the Majors breaking down the right again, Matthew threading a pass toward Charlie, just slightly overhit. Naas Prem responded with some excellent passages of play, transitioning smoothly from the backline, to midfield and into attack. But the Majors’ defence stood firm. Darragh P won possession and released Jason on the left, who beat his man brilliantly, found Charlie in space but Naas Prem's were alert to the danger. The back line of Alex K, Darragh P and Bobby, who were excellent today, continued to break up attacks and feed the midfield and wingers, stretching Naas Prem and forcing them deeper as the Majors grew stronger. Just before the hydration break, Rory and Charlie made way for Freddie and Finn, adding fresh energy. After the restart, Naas Prem enjoyed a spell of possession, but the Majors absorbed the pressure superbly. A sharp Prem move forced a brilliant save from Evan, who then launched a long ball for Finn and Matthew to chase. Naas Prem scrambled well to clear, and the Majors earned another corner, though Naas Prem defended it strongly. Naas Prem carved out another chance late in the half, but Darragh P and Bobby reacted superbly to shut it down and bring a fiercely contested first half to an end.

The second half burst into life immediately, with Naas Prem applying heavy early pressure. But through sheer grit and determination, Naas Majors stood firm, dealing with two Prem corners confidently and settling into the half with real composure. Despite the pressure, Naas Majors continued to carve out attacking opportunities of their own, keeping the prem team on the back foot. A switch on the wing saw Rory return for Jason, adding fresh energy down the left. Naas Major's caused all sorts of issues for the Prem's down the right, Matthew continued to attack the prem's backline drawing a foul and a yellow card for the prem defender. Freddie and Finn put in a real team performance, both making a nuisance of themselves in the final third pulling the prem defense around the park before being subbed. Naas Prem continued to probe, firing a dangerous effort over the bar, but the Majors heads did not drop. They pieced together a brilliant passage of play that led to a corner, won by a strong strike from Charlie. Darragh P delivered a quality ball into the box, though Prem defended it well. Alex K continued to shine at left‑back, dealing with everything Prem threw at him. Even when Prem produced some intricate play through the centre, Bobby stepped across with a superb intervention to shut down the danger. Naas Majors then produced one of their best moves of the half, Matthew burst down the right, played inside to Bobby, who returned the ball perfectly. Matthew sprinted the line and whipped in a brilliant cross but Finn and Charlie were inches away from turning it home. The Naas Prem team responded with two strong passages of play, earning back‑to‑back corners. The Majors cleared both, the second Matthew got in front of the Naas Prem player to guide the ball over the bar, clipping the crossbar on its way out. A lucky escape for Naas Majors. For all the pressure Majors absorbed, they never stopped working as a team and backing each other up. Rory threaded a superb pass that almost put Matthew through, but the Prem keeper rushed out and secured the ball. The keeper's clearance fell straight back to Rory, who evaded his marker brilliantly before being fouled earning the Prem player a yellow card. With momentum shifting, Naas Majors really began to grow into the game. Evan’s distribution was flawless throughout, feeding midfielders and wingers with precision. One such pass found Matthew on the right; he held it up, laid it back to Bobby, who returned it for him to chase. Matthew was pulled back, winning a free outside the Prem teams box, though it came to nothing. The prem player was then warned by the ref that he was already on a yellow. The Prem countered late on, creating a few half‑chances, but all sailed over the bar. After an unreal, end‑to‑end battle, the match finished 0–0, sending both teams straight to penalties.

• Prem’s second taker fired over the bar — a huge moment in the shootout.
• Up stepped Darragh P, and he delivered with authority, smashing home to make it 3–1 Majors.
• Prem’s next penalty was dragged left of the post — another miss, and the Majors were in full control.
• Bobby P followed, striking his effort well, but the Prem keeper guessed correctly and produced a strong save to keep his side alive. 3–2 after Prem converted their next attempt.
• With the pressure at its peak, Eoghan stepped forward — confidence personified. He placed his penalty with total composure, sealing the shootout 4–2 and sending Naas Majors through to the last 8 of the Cup.

Wayne and Gav Barnes spoke to both squads after the match, praising the quality, attitude, and commitment shown from first whistle to last. They emphasised that, regardless of the final scoreline, the standard of football on display proved just how much talent runs through our U12 groups — a huge asset for the club and a credit to every player involved. Wayne then capped things off by naming Matthew as Man of the Match, recognising his outstanding contribution across the game.
