Boys U10 (2016) Blue - Athy
Naas AFC U10 Blue ๐โฝ๐ฅ
Friday night football under the lights saw our Naas AFC Under 10 Blue team take on a very strong Athy side โ and if you know Athy, you know exactly what was coming: commitment, robustness, plenty of quality footballโฆ and absolutely no easy rides! ๐ โฝ
From the first whistle, Athy came flying out of the traps and put Naas under serious pressure. Against the run of play, Naas struck on the counter, with Jake Lopez showing great composure to finish neatly into the bottom-left corner. ๐โฝ
1-0 Naas!
Athy didn't panic and continued to ask plenty of questions. Their pressure eventually paid off with a powerful drive that Daniel Morgan in the Naas goal could do little about.
1-1!
And that was how it stood at half-time.
The second half started at the same frantic pace, but this time it was Naas who came flying out of the blocks. The pressure paid off when Jake Lopez popped up again with a neat finish to put Naas back in front.
2-1 Naas! ๐
That goal seemed to flick a switch, and Naas suddenly looked full of confidence. Possession started to swing heavily in Naas' favour, and the pressure was buildingโฆ
Then came THE GOAL! ๐คฏ๐ฅ
Around eight minutes into the second half, the spectators were treated to something special from the very impressive Daniel Morgan. Daniel picked his spot from around 20 yards and absolutely RIFLED the ball into the top bin! ๐ฏ๐
No chance for the goalkeeper.
3-1 Naas!
Five minutes later, Naas produced a fantastic team goal. A clever short-corner routine had the Athy defence twisting, turning and probably wondering where the ball โ and everyone else โ had gone! ๐
While all that was happening, Conor Cronin had quietly drifted into space at the back post and calmly slotted home.
4-1 Naas! โฝ๐
With Naas continuing to pile on the pressure, a mistake in the Athy defence presented Henry Dolan with an opportunity from the penalty spot.
Henry's response?
"Thank you very much!" ๐โฝ
Coolly converted.
5-1 Naas!
Athy kept battling right to the very end and grabbed a late consolation goal just before the final whistle.
Final score: Naas AFC 5-2 Athy. ๐โฝ
What a game! ๐
This was football played at an extremely high tempo from start to finish, and both teams deserve huge credit for the effort, commitment and quality they showed.
A massive shout-out to Athy too. Their sportsmanship, respect and attitude throughout the game were fantastic. They are a real credit to their coaches, and it was brilliant to see two teams competing hard while showing such respect for each other. ๐๐
Well done, lads! Another brilliant performance from the Naas AFC U10 Blue team.
And a special mention for Daniel Morganโฆ top bin from 20 yards?! Save some goals for next week! ๐๐ฅ
Also whilst the goalscorers tend to get mentioned a lot, the Naas defence today was on point, snuffing out the Athy attacks and never giving in. Well done, Ruairi, Leo, Callum, Tadgh, Finn, Jonathan, Cameron.
