KDUL Cup Game R16 Kill Celtic M1 (A)

This last 16 KDUL Cup match kicked off on the back pitch in Kill unnatural afternoon in lovely sunny conditions. Within 5 minutes however there was a hail shower to soften the playing surface further. Thankfully it was an isolated cloud and the sun returned.

Naas started the game well, passing the ball around the park. The pitch itself was in very poor condition and it did make the game a little more fractured. Within 90 seconds Naas had two attempts on goal, one from Kellum Finnegan and the other from Adam Conroy.

Their dominance was evident early on.

The game would continue that way but it wasn’t until the 21st minute that the first goal arrived. Jamie Dunphy clipped a ball between the Kill centre halves and Hin Ngo raced clear and buried his shot low into the corner. It was a deserved lead for the visitors.

The Naas back four were dealing with everything else though and Jason Gleeson in particular was having a great game at right back.

Into the second half and the game continued in the same way despite some rough late challenges by the Kill team. Ten minutes into the half and a rare Kill attack earned a free kick on the left side of the Naas penalty area. The well struck free kick found the top corner and the game was level.

Naas stuck to the game plan though and on 52 minutes they found the lead again. A flowing move that started with a ball from Jamie Dunphy down the right wing to Kellum Finnegan who flicked a lovely pass through to Hin Ngo who’s first time finish round the bottom corner.

Just two minutes later and the Naas high press forced a turnover. Peter McBride dribbled into the area and laid the ball to Hin Ngo who’s rasping shot found the roof of the net for his first hat trick in a Naas shirt. That was game over for the battling Kill Celtic side.

As the clock ticked into injury time Naas forced a corner on the right hand side. Kellum Finnegan delivered a lovely cross and Max Kennedy rose to head the ball into the net for his first of the season.

A well deserved win for Naas and they march on to the quarter finals where they await their next opponent in the draw.

With no games over Easter next weekend the team will have a couple of friendlies to keep the legs moving before the run in to the season end.
