Boys U15 (2011) Major 1 - Clane Utd
"There are places I'll remember,
All my life, tho some have changed. "
A freezing cold windy Saturday in March at the Sports Centre. The weather here finds a way to cut you in two. Niko and Fabian found a way to cut through Rathangan in the first round of the cup.
"All these places had their moments."
3-1 down to Kilcullen in the 68th minute of a 70 minute game. Cian O'Neill doing his Beckham impression. Sam O'Malley insisting more than anybody has ever insisted that he was scoring the second. Rhys Wall displaying nerves of steel to convert a penalty when missing was not an option.
"But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you."
There is no comparison to be made with the performance against Coill Dubh in the semi final. The greatest performance ever seen from this team. Coill Dubh were never in it. The team sitting second in the league never saw it coming. Niall O'Connell with two huge goals and the ever improving Niko with a superb goal.
"Tho I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before"
The final was against the league leaders. A team we hadn't beaten this season. A team on the verge of a double. A team in for a massive shock.
3-0 up at half time.
A first half built on taking your chances. We took 3. Clane took none. Matt Courtney producing wonder moments on the big stage! Sean Savage banging one in with his bad foot.
A second half defensive performance marshalled by Sam and Eoin. Adrian fighting for every inch of the pitch to belong to him. Every one of them stood tall. Every one of them winners in every sense of the word. Every single member of the squad left their heart and soul on a pitch in Kildare somewhere along the way to lifting the trophy.
The first ever trophy for this squad. This squad, full of the best people that you could ever wish to meet. This squad that have each others back for ever more.
"I know I'll often stop and think about them,
In my life I love you more"
