Boys U14 (2013) Premier - Rathangan
Rathangan were the visitors for round two of the SFAI Trophy, and Naas took control from the start. Just five minutes in, Leo flashed a superb cross across the box. Hin kept it in play and cut it back for Stephen to slot home the opener.
Naas doubled their lead in the 14th minute. Senan won the ball back in midfield and laid it off to Peter before making his run. Peter threaded the return pass between the centre-halves, and Senan rounded the keeper to make it 2–0.
Rathangan battled hard, but Naas struck again on the stroke of half-time. Callum nudged the ball to Stephen, who rolled it into Senan’s feet. Senan laid it off first time to Peter, who lifted it over the defence with his first touch. Senan ran onto it and clipped it over the advancing keeper. One from the training ground.
Half-time | Naas AFC 3–0 Rathangan
Naas put the game beyond reach with four goals in the opening six minutes of the second half.
The first was a fine team goal. Kellum, Jake and Charlie passed it well at the back before Leo picked up Peter’s attempted through ball and played Mikey in down the left. Mikey nutmegged his full-back and crossed for Senan to volley home his hat-trick.
Adam made it 5–0 in the 38th minute, firing high into the net after a good pass from Peter. Just 90 seconds later, Stephen set up Senan for his fourth and Naas’ sixth. Two minutes after that, the keeper spilled Stephen’s shot and Senan was on hand to tuck away his fifth of the day.
The eighth came in the 51st minute. Kellum and Charlie worked a short corner before Kellum whipped in a cross. Kian flicked a lovely header onto the crossbar and Max was in the right place to nod home the rebound for his first goal of the season. Like buses, his second was only five minutes behind. Adam swung a corner into the six-yard box from the right and Max came in at the back post to head home for 9–0.
Mikey rounded off the scoring five minutes from time, He collected a ball over the top from
Callum and cut in from the left and curling a lovely right foot finish into the far corner.
Full-time | Naas AFC 10–0 Rathangan
Naas went about their business from the first whistle and put the tie to bed early in the second half. That gave us a chance to rest a few lads who were due to play for the KDUL interleague team the next day.
Next up is a tough game at home to Castle Villa, our first league match in six weeks. Then it’s a short trip to Newbridge United in round three of the SFAI Trophy.
