U12 Yellows 25/26 - Pro Elite Academy
Match Report: U12 Yellows vs Pro Elite Academy
From a coaching point of view, this was a difficult result to accept because the U12 Yellows produced a performance that deserved more. For large periods, we dominated the game, controlled possession, and played with confidence and purpose.
We took a deserved lead around the halfway mark after a sustained spell of pressure. The goal came from good build-up play, patience on the ball, and a well-taken finish off the rebound. At that point, we were firmly in control, creating chances and keeping Pro Elite on the back foot.
Shortly after going ahead, we conceded an equaliser from our attempt to play out from the back. As coaches, we take responsibility for that moment. We encourage the players to be brave and play, and while it didn’t come off on this occasion, it’s part of the learning process. The response from the boys was excellent, as they stayed composed and quickly regained control of the game.
Defensively, our overall shape and work rate were strong, but we were often tested by long balls and quick counter-attacks. While these moments didn’t reflect the balance of play, they are areas we know we must manage better moving forward.
Despite continuing to push for a second goal and limiting Pro Elite to very few chances from open play, the game was decided in the final 10 minutes by a set piece. We didn’t deal with the situation leading to the free kick as well as we should have, and Pro Elite capitalised to score the winner.
Although the result is disappointing, there were many positives to take. The attitude, bravery on the ball, and togetherness shown by the U12 Yellows were excellent. This match provides clear learning points around game management, transitions, and set pieces, and we’ll use them to continue developing as a team.
