Men's 1st XV - Carrick

Final Score: Oban Lorne 10 – 31 Carrick
On a wet and heavy afternoon at Glencruitten, Oban Lorne’s men fell to a 10–31 defeat against Carrick, with the visitors adapting far better to the difficult conditions.
Carrick started strongly and set the tone early, playing a controlled and direct style of rugby that proved effective on the sodden pitch. Their simple, structured approach limited mistakes, while Oban struggled with handling errors that blunted attacking opportunities.
Despite this, Oban showed moments of real promise and looked dangerous when they managed to keep the ball in hand. Noah Ellithorne crossed for both of the home side’s tries, taking his chances well and proving that Oban could capitalise when their phases clicked together.
Player of the Match went to Craig Wright, making his first appearance in eight months. He produced some strong individual runs and provided energy throughout, epitomising Oban’s commitment and determination. Ellithorne also stood out with his attacking spark, keeping Carrick’s defence under pressure whenever he found space.
Carrick, however, were in control from the first whistle, maintaining their lead throughout and closing out the match with composure. Their ability to keep errors to a minimum was the difference between the two sides.
Oban now have two weekends off before their next fixture. The break will provide valuable time to regroup and focus on structure and gameplay. With no shortage of effort, talent, or commitment so far this season, the key for Oban is to bring it all together and start converting performances into results.
