Stockton Thunder v Exhall Colts (KO time 9:30)

Match Report

Stockton lined up with Cai in goal, supported by Jack, William and Zack across the back. Fred, Oliver, Zachary and Mason formed the midfield unit, with Ethan leading the line.

Thunder started strongly, showing a well-organised shape across both the back three and midfield four. Ethan, Mason, Zachary and Oliver combined effectively to create several promising openings in the final third, causing problems for the Exhall defence. However, despite the positive build-up play, getting shots away proved difficult.

Exhall took the lead from a corner following some confusion over the clearance, before doubling their advantage through a well-worked move that opened up the defence and ended with a fine low finish into the corner.

Stockton continued to threaten, with Yaz laying the ball into Zachary, whose curling effort struck the crossbar. As the half progressed, Reuben replaced Ethan up front and linked play well with Mason, with only timely defensive interventions preventing Stockton from breaking through.

Half-time: 0–2

In the second half, Reuben moved to left midfield, Yaz slotted into defence, Ethan returned up front and Zack replaced Mason in central midfield.

Thunder continued to defend well as a unit, restricting Exhall largely to longer-range efforts, although as the half wore on, tiredness began to create more space. Following the half-time team talk, Ethan did an excellent job of holding the ball up and bringing midfield runners into play, allowing Stockton to build attacks with greater numbers. Despite this improvement, creating clear shooting opportunities remained a challenge against a disciplined defence.

Further changes saw Mason return to midfield and Zachary drop into defence, with all players continuing to work hard for the team. Some of Stockton’s best passing combinations came in the latter stages, reflecting growing confidence and cohesion.

As Thunder pushed for a way back into the game, Exhall capitalised on the space and added a third goal on the break. However, Stockton’s persistence was deservedly rewarded when Ethan won the ball from the defence and finished confidently — a strong reminder of his attacking threat.

Overall, this was a much-improved team performance that provides a solid foundation to build upon. Every player worked hard, stayed organised and executed the game plan effectively.
