U11 Calcio Select - Yorkshire Premier Black
In what became a war of attrition and a hard fought game, Calcio did well to come back and secure a 3-3 draw against the seeding phase winners Yorkshire Premier Black.
It was a fast start and a very transitional game, with the score 2-1 to us within ten minutes. The second period took its toll on an already depleted squad, with Lewen succumbing to his croup and Isaac who was playing injured limped off with a back injury. They capitalised by scoring two unanswered goals as our midfield lost structure and they managed to get runners in behind.
The break couldn’t come soon enough and after a quick chat around the whiteboard we went man-for-man to take the game to them. We focused on winning our duels and creating separation to combine, which led to some of the best pieces of play of game. Our pressure paid off and we secured the equaliser in a familiar way, Isaac converting a corner for the fourth time this season. A great ball in from Jude meant that Isaac who had got across his man placed a composed side footed volley into the corner. This goal description was brought to you by Steve Coughlin because I missed the goal tending to Eman! Thanks Steve.
Mom went to Kirky, who was back to his best today, put on a clinical finishing display and most importantly dropped into midfield and did a great job when our two CM’s died! Well done Osc.
