Away Castle Villa, KDUL Cup Round 1

On an absolute scorcher of a day, Naas AFC travelled to Tullow for their opening fixture in the KDUL Under-12 Cup, taking on a strong Castle Villa AFC side. From the first whistle, Naas settled quickly and began to dictate the tempo, moving the ball with confidence and purpose. Their bright start paid off after just six minutes. A pinpoint corner from Darragh P was met by Alex S, who powered home a thunderous header, leaving the Castle Villa goalkeeper rooted to the spot. Naas continued to press, transitioning superbly from defence into attack. On 15 minutes, they doubled their lead—yes, another header. This time it was Max who rose highest, glancing a clever flick across the face of goal and in off the post.To their credit, Castle Villa refused to fold. They pieced together several promising passages of play, but the Naas back line stood firm. Alex K, Darragh P, and Seb worked tirelessly, shielding Evan and snuffing out danger before it could develop. Their composure provided the perfect platform for the Naas midfield and forwards to unleash wave after wave of attacks. Naas bombarded the Castle Villa goal right up to the halftime whistle, but the score remained 2–0 at the break

The second half started at 11:56, it was now 22 degrees, Roy and myself were already sunburnt and Naas AFC started the second half with 7 players. Like a scene from the film 300, where 300 Spartan warriors fought and defeated King Xerxes armed warriors against all odds, this was similar. After losing Evan and Alex S to an unknown sport called GAA, a reshuffle was unavoidable. Max bravely stepped into goal, the defensive trio stayed rock‑solid, Matthew and Jason took command of midfield, and Faniel led the line up front. By 11:57, Castle Villa were still trying to process why Naas AFC decided to send two of our players home for the craic, they went immediately on the attack. To say the team did amazingly well was an understatement. Naas AFC didn’t just absorb continuous Castle Villa pressure; Naas AFC fought back, transitioning quickly from defense into attack with real intent. Jason and Matthew were relentless in the midfield, covering every blade of grass, breaking up Castle Villa’s rhythm, driving the team forward and putting Castle Villa on the back foot. Up front, Faniel was immense. His strength, close control, and ability to create space allowed Naas to keep possession and relieve pressure at crucial moments. Despite being out-numbered, Naas held firm and the game ended 2-nil through grit, determination, fitness and our ability to work as a team and to not give up. A huge team performance and like the Spartans, we live to fight another day.
