GOG U13s Purple vs Bedwell Rangers

With winning the league and this being our last game of the season the girls had to win or draw to become invincibles throughout the whole season. We didn’t want to take Bedwell for granted as we beat them earlier in the season. They had a few good players and a striker who scored all their goals.

With a full squad for today's game, we knew there would be plenty of opportunities for all the players to get enough time on the pitch. We again started very slow and did not do the basics we have been trying to implement on the girls. We just couldn't string two or three passes together. We changed a few positions around but still not the way we want them to play. A few chances down either wing but nothing came of it. Sofia who has been excellent again this season completely player-marked their attacker giving her nothing all half.

Half time 0-0

At half-time we wanted the girls to understand that the whole season they had played excellent football to get them where they were and we asked them to just give one final push this next half and go out with a bang.

Carolyn and Bonnie were in the middle for the start of the second half and I can say they both were amazing. Some strong challenges from the start gave us a buzz to win everything. Seraphina played a ball out to the wing for Mariah and she cut in to beat a defender, she then got her feet mixed up a little but the ball broke out and she unleashed a powerful 20+ yard strike into the back of the net. 1-0

From then it was a bombardment of chances and opportunities from all the girls. The tempo stepped up and it was only a matter of time for another. One of our attributes is a long throw from Mariah, she floats it into the box over a defender's head and Elisa with a spin shot puts us up by two. 2-0

With our defenders still doing a great job shutting out all their attacks we decided to change the position for some girls. Going into the game we wanted Maya to have a stint up front and with ten minutes to go she had her chance. With a couple of minutes of her upfront we get a penalty. We knew she had to take it!! Unfortunately, the keeper makes a good save and the follow-up she puts over the bar. It may be one of them days where she doesn't get a goal. But with 8 minutes left in the clock, Emma unleashed a great effort and hit the crossbar. A great effort but the rebound went straight to Maya who tucked it away into the net. The joy from parents, coaches and all the girls for her to get her first goal of the season was amazing to see. Even all the subs run onto the pitch to celebrate with her.

With the final whistle being blown that was it!! We have finished our season as CHAMPIONS & INVINCIBLES🏆

What a great effort from every single one of the girls to get this far throughout the season without losing a game in the league is amazing. We now have a few weeks off for Easter, but we continue to train and get ready for the friendlies and tournaments we have sorted out for the girls.

We as coaches are so proud of the girls for what they have achieved and will always remember the 23/24 season for these U13s Purples team💜🏆💜
