EFA v Bedhead

A very positive performance from our boys.

Despite winning 11-0, I don't think it was our best performance this season. But it was well accomplished regarding the principles of play attacking and mainly principles of play defending.
Something that I really enjoyed was despite the initial struggles (normal when introducing something new in training), they surprised me by applying overall on a very high standard those principles of play defending that they started practicing not long time ago (press/delay, cover and balance).

Attacking wise, despite scoring 11, we missed several chances, otherwise the result could have been over 20.
One thing I believe it was my fault, when as a way to motivate certain players who have scored 2 goals already to try to score the third.
They literally took my words into play. We had some excellent plays that I have been seeing in previous matches, however, it was lovely to see those plays, however, the last touch and/or decision making let us all down, in what could have been an historic final score.
We need to understand that each individual plays a massive role for the outcomes of the team. However, is not one player that is going to win matches for the team, but yes, all players matter! Despite if it is a player who scores a lot of goals, or a player who simply receives and passes the ball, or a player who presses and force the error, or a goalkeeper who saves a shot, they ALL matter.
So, important to start thinking that each individual action when positive should be celebrated! A save, a tackle, an assist, a goal, all those actions and many more count. When they take an action who was less positive, comes the reflection process they should start applying.
It was frustrating seeing the best team play actions finishing without a goal, as they were so brilliant until the last touch. On the other hand, these great team plays were great to be seen as an image of those 3v2s and 2v1s we have practiced in training.
So at the end I am very happy and proud for this record win (even though could have been an academy record, if above 20), but mainly because they are slowly understanding the game as a whole, in such a "tender" age.

We now need to keep putting an effort in training, as it is visible what I always say, the matches are a reflection of the effort each individual put in training.
Last Thursday they trained well, that came to live in the match!!
Well done boys!!
Lets keep improving!!!
