Thunder faced a really tough League Cup draw against Hinckley RFC Panthers, a side from Division C. Despite the difference in divisions, however, Thunder produced a performance full of organisation, teamwork and determination, particularly in a first half where they made it far from obvious which team played in the higher division.

Thunder started excellently, showing great structure and a real willingness to disrupt the opposition. Ethan was particularly effective, repeatedly releasing the ball intelligently to move the team up the pitch. He caused Hinckley problems with a dangerous ball squared across the box which was begging to be tapped in, while a couple of further efforts forced saves from the keeper.

At the other end, Jack and Ben made a series of smart tackles and blocks, frustrating Hinckley's attacks. Zack was also called upon to make a couple of excellent saves, while Mason produced a cracking turn to beat his man before a covering defender closed down his shot.

Thunder continued to compete impressively, matching Hinckley for large periods and showing that the gap between the two divisions was not obvious on the pitch. Hinckley eventually took the lead following a favourable penalty decision before a good run and smart finish saw them go into half-time two goals ahead.

Hinckley increased the intensity after the break and Thunder were forced to dig deep. Oliver battled throughout midfield, communicating well with his teammates and remaining positive from the first whistle to the last while wearing the captain's armband.

Despite the pressure, there were still plenty of encouraging moments. Archie and Sam combined well down the left on occasions, showing real promise for future matches. Yaz worked tirelessly on the right, making it difficult for Hinckley to build attacks down that side.

Zack continued to produce strong saves, including an excellent penalty stop. He briefly left the field with an injury, allowing Fred to deputise in goal, and Fred responded confidently by tipping a rasping effort over the bar.

William worked extremely hard at centre-back throughout the second half and showed growing composure on the ball. One particularly encouraging moment saw him turn calmly under pressure inside his own box before confidently passing out to the left.

Harry also worked tirelessly when pressing from the front, putting his body on the line so completely that he took a ball full in the face while challenging for possession!

Thunder continued to look for opportunities despite the pressure. Austin almost helped create a late consolation when he collected the rebound from Ethan's dipping cross-shot, took the ball around his man but couldn't quite find the teammate he was looking to set up.

Ben continued to demonstrate his versatility by playing in several positions, including central midfield, where he made some good passes and helped Thunder maintain their shape.

The final score was harsh on a Thunder side who fought all the way to the final whistle and made Hinckley work hard for their reward. While nobody enjoys losing, there is plenty for Thunder to take from this performance. The organisation, resilience and willingness to compete against a strong side were clear signs of the progression this group is making.

CPOTM – Ethan Worked tirelessly, took up sensible positions and consistently made good decisions about when to release the ball and when to drive into space.

PPOTM – Archie Worked hard throughout, making strong tackles in midfield to disrupt attacks before they could develop. He also showed excellent feet and composure on the ball to build passing combinations.

A tough League Cup draw against a strong Division C side, but Thunder showed plenty of organisation, determination and resilience. A superb first-half performance restricted Hinckley to just 2 goals, with Thunder competing strongly and making the difference between the divisions far from obvious.

The boys battled to the final whistle and showed clear signs of progression.
