Today we played our final home game of the season. We’ve had a tough few weeks without a win, so my message to the team today was let’s get a win for our last game at home. Bring back that fire the girls had at the start of the season, play smart, play as one and do not take their foot off the pedal at all. 

With 4 players missing today I started our formation in 2-4-2 to give us that extra help at the front and some strength in the middle. 

On kick off the girls pressed with speed. Their passing was on point and the communication was excellent. Heads were up and we were moving the ball around the pitch with ease. Half time we were 3 nil up and the girls were on fire. We’d seen two goals from Katie and a lovely one from Gracie but during team talk the message was clear, reset to 0:0 don’t get cocky or think you can relax as Hitchin would be coming for us! 

second half was full of aggression. Both sides playing to desperately secure the win. Hitchin were in our half a fair amount but our defence line was so strong…on the few occasions the ball  did reach Sophie, she was on point, diving and catching the ball. Nothing was stopping these ladies. 

we saw a superb goal from Sarah which was our goal of the season!! She flew down the wing with two players on her, with control she flicked the ball  and it went flying top bins!! 

We saw Ta’lia get her first goal of the season which was incredible for her. 

and a fantastic penalty scored by Katie, after a bad foul on Gracie in the box. 

after fighting tooth and nail the girls got the win that they truly deserved. 8:0!! A clean sheet for Sophie was just incredible. She’s had a tough few weeks and she’d lost a bit of confidence but today she was back and I couldn’t be more proud of her and the whole team. 

When we work as a unit and we show commitment on the pitch, this is what we can do.
