Girls U10's Wildcats - Coventry Sphinx

Our Super Stockton Wildcats are into the semi-final of the Spring Cup after a fantastic match today against Coventry Sphinx.

We had a really strong start to the game and could have been 2 goals ahead within the first 2 minutes of the match but somehow we put both chances wide of the post. We did however take a deserved lead 11 minutes in, Maisie with a low powerful shot from inside the box. ⚽️

A goal up and playing well it looked like we might be on for a comfortable win.. but then the game turned with Coventry bringing on a couple of very fast and skilful players who caused us a lot of problems and had a great battle with our team throughout the rest of the match.

We found ourselves 2-1 down at halftime but still confident that if we kept up our performance we would win the game.

Maisie equalised just after halftime but Coventry were not done, their same 2 players causing problems and grabbed 2 quick goals on the counter attack.

4-2 down with 15 minutes to play and our semifinal hopes hanging by a thread.. Maisie scored what is probably the goal of the season, picking the ball up deep in our own half and beating the entire Coventry team before bending a shot into the top corner from outside the box. What a fantastic goal!! 🔥 And a minute later another Maisie goal - an equaliser and her fourth goal of the game! Maisie well on course for top goalscorer of the season now, but still catchable!!🥇

Coventry had blown their 2 goal lead and with 5 minutes to play and the game possibly heading for extra time a goal from Emily won the match for the Wildcats! ⚽️ 👏 Big celebrations from the team as they had turned the match around!

Now was the time for us to keep the ball and a number of throw ins for us by the corner flag (and laces that needed tying!) helped us to see out the game.

Coventry had one last attack right at the end of the match and an incredible last ditch tackle from Millie on the edge of the box prevented the Coventry player from getting a shot at goal! 💪 Player of the match awarded for that moment!

Bring on the cup semi-final! Whatever happens next we’re super proud of the team. We’re going to give it everything we’ve got - who says we can’t go all the way and win it!
