Ok as I said last week we're going to take a bit longer than other teams as we haven't really had a pre season, but already I can see the lads fitness building up nicely.
I challenged the lads to concede no more than 2 goals in this game as we've been having a habit last season and this conceding too many goals.
We tried a new 3 at the back system for the 1st half which we need if ever getting over powered or outplayed in midfield it was a solid performance, but the more we try it the better were get at it, we only conceded the one goal in the 1st half and to be honest it was a good goal so 1-1 at half time.
2nd half we went back to our trusty system banging in another 3 goals and conceding none so very happy the lads took things on board and put a better defensive display in.
1st man of the match was Archie, he played as one of the back 3, right centre back in back 4 and as a right back he was brill in every position, he isn't the quickest, the biggest or strongest but I told him if he can read the game properly he'll make up for things that way, and he cut out pretty much every danger and he got himself an assist to go with it 👏.
Alfie was my other man of the match, we're really starting to get to see the Alfie I remember in his younger teams. He's more powerful in his play, doesn't stop running, great composure on the ball and can play in any position along the midfield, its going to be a big season for Alfie I'm sure.
Couple of shout outs, Jakey boy, he might not be as technically gifted as some others but we found out today he's got the heart and desire, I had a bit of a go at the lads at half time about being more physical and I used a Jake situation as an example where he didn't tackle a lad etc, well did he go out and prove me wrong in the 2nd half, nearly got a yellow card for a big challenge on a lad and gave another opposition player a bloody nose through the more physical play I was asking for, thank you Jake and as usual with his fitness improving he pops up at the back post and bangs a goal in 👏
2nd shout out goes to Vee another one I've been asking more physical and pressing play from and he didn't let me down today, whichever wing he was on he gave there wing back a tough time, another one who has great composure on the ball. I'm looking forward to see what he can do this season when the assist maker gets back in to top form, it's not just about the assist and goals though .
All in all a solid performance now we need to go and get 3 points in league next Sunday đź’Şâš˝
