Boys U15 (2011) Major 2 Blue - Monasterevin AFC
A sunny day on the Naas sports grounds made up for the 40 minute delay to kick-off, with fantastic support shown on the side line! Everyone aware that the win secured the league title, but it was business as usual for the lads and no nerves were showing.
We had not played Monasterevin since the beginning of the season but we knew they were a tough side from our first encounter, but the majority of the attack was Naas with pressure being put on the Monasterevin goal from the start. 3 corners within the first 5-minutes, two taken by Harry and the third from Niko, but the score line stayed 0:0. Monasterevin did have a period of intense pressure up our end with Sam somehow making a great save with about 10 players in the box! A tap free from Niko, saw Freddie taking a great strike on goal with the Monasterevin keeper making a save and putting it out for our 4th corner of the match, resulted in a goal kick. The pressure continued with Senan making a great run down the line and putting the pass into Freddie, with the shot again saved by the keeper. Minutes later a great run from Nathanem resulted in a strike on target, but again the keeper saves!!! It wasn’t until nearly the 20th minute of the game that a great free kick from Harry saw Zsombor hit the ball into the back of the net, 1:0.
Our attack continued and we had 2 more corner kicks from Harry after some great attack play from Niko and Senan. Our back four, Jack, Jamie, Matthew and Harry played a blinder and kept danger from Sam during many periods of attack from Monasterevin during the first half, Sam also making great saves, and at half time it remainder 1:0.
The second half kicked off with our lads putting massive pressure on Monasterevin and after they had lost their strongest player just before half time, they began to look like a different side and our lads took full advantage! Shots from Scott and Senan within minutes of kickoff, it took 8 minutes and great play from Fionn, to Zsombor who passed to Niko who struck a great shot and we were 2:0. The lads never looked back and the pressure was constant. A great run from Zsombor up the wing, going down, up immediately, keeping the ball, and passing to Freddie who put it away, 3:0! Within seconds, Freddie shoots again and we are 4:0 up with 15 minutes to go!!! Fionn wraps it up for 5:0 after a great pass from Freddie!
The league title a great reward for the Team and as coaches we could not be more proud.
We made a plan between the 4 of us before the season started with our number one ambition being a league promotion, the league title the second, this shared with the lads from the beginning. We coach and encourage, with the lads having to put the effort in at training, and playing the 70 minutes each week which they did amazingly well to their credit. A great group of lads, the League title and unbeaten with one game remaining, way above our expectation.
