Marr Vs Oban Lorne RFC

Oban Lorne Ladies were in action again this weekend travelling away to Marr. The game started with Oban out of balance and lacking form. Marr took full advantage and launched their physical challenge for possession and ground. There was a lot of strong carries from Marr as Oban struggled to find their feet. Holding the defensive line well Rebekah Palmer and Alanna MacKenzie put in a big shift keeping Marr at bay with some stunning tackles. Gathering the ball Oban launched their own attack with Ailsa MacCuish and Lindsay MacMillan working well to gather pace only to be lost with ill-discipline from both teams. After what seemed like forever with no points on the board finally Oban’s Rachel MacDonald spotted a gap and powered across the try line giving Oban their first 5 points. With the clock dwindling in the first half Poppy MacKillop was finally unleased, dancing around the opposition and powering past the fullback Poppy brought Oban’s points tally to 10 before half-time.

Coaching team Corrie Louw and Ellie Picken set the standard for the second half, cool calm and collected. Oban took to the field and immediately found their feet. Everything that hadn’t glued the team in the first half had disappeared and Oban hit their stride. Massive carries from Isla MacGillivray and support from Jordan MacIntyre and Iona Campbell saw Marr on the back foot immediately. Poppy MacKillop and Rachel MacDonald linking well upped their try tally to four a piece. Oban were on a roll and Marr had no answer. Rachel MacDonald broke for her fifth try of the day with Arden Binnie in hot pursuit, caught 10 metres short Arden took the pass and powered through her opposite number to touch down another well worked try.

Oban dominated scrums and line outs as Jordan MacIntyre stole possession setting up Ellie MacInnes for a try of her own to add to the tally as she ripped up the field untouched on pace or determination. Drew Buckley commanding well from the wing kept Oban’s defensive line in good form as Amy Gibson made light work of Marrs kicking game. Marr resurged and pooled the resources that they had left, shifting the ball out to the wing and breaking through tackles to put their own 5 points on the board. Oban not content took it right back to them and fought for a team try finally touched down by Jordan MacIntyre as she was rewarded for all of her previous efforts during the game. Final score of 5-71 in Oban’s favour. The ladies are now taking a well-deserved weekend off with an Afternoon Tea planned for next weekend at the rugby club. We would like to invite everyone to purchase a ticket to come and enjoy some amazing baking and a few bubbles. Oban ladies will be back in action against Cartha Queens Park II on Nov 23rd at Glencruitten.
