Naas AFC v Castle Villa

Poor performance but a great result
A hard fought but entertaining game saw Naas keep up their winning run by the odd goal in 7. Naas had the better of the early stages but the impressive Noah returning to striker after goalkeeping duties in the last few weeks and Harry out wide saw their chances saved or just missing the target. Villa found themselves ahead after some poor defending by the home side allowed the impressive Villa midfielder to find his teammate unmarked in the box and he made no mistake. This seemed to spark us back into life and when a free kick was won 30 yards out Luke stepped up to find the back of the net, with the aid of a slight deflection (I’m reliably informed it was on target anyway…) Noah and Jayden then combined well down the left with the latter skipping passed 2 defenders before finding Ben on the edge of the area and he fired Naas ahead.
Into the second half and Villa came out strong and the usual Naas pressure on the ball just wasn’t there, possibly the 4 games in 11 days was starting to catch up and Villa got a deserved 2nd to tie the game up.Still the lads showed spirit and after a Villa attack was halted for offside, Scott McGarr put a lovely ball over the top of the very high line of the Villa defence. Ben latched onto the ball and with the sideline screaming ‘shoot’! Ben checked back inside the defender before finding the top corner with his left foot (what do we know). Again Villa came back and when a corner was failed to be cleared the ball was in the back of the net. Both teams then had chances to win it but it was Naas that found the extra bit of grit and with 2 minutes remaining Fionn robbed the advancing Villa midfielder before beating a player and then finding the unmarked Luke 15 yard out. Luke took a touch before coolly finding the far corner. The lads went wild, the sideline went wild, the ref went wild by adding 3 mins of injury time on, but despite this we hung on for the victory.
One game left of the season on Thursday, we’ll dig deep and go again.
