Boys U13 (2013) Premier - Kilcock Celtic

After a couple of bad weather days the game was touch and go but after an early morning pitch inspection we got the go ahead. To add a little more tension the game was also then delayed by a late change of referee.
When we finally did get underway Naas got off to a horror start and found themselves 1-0 down after 2 minutes when keeper Finn Dudley was adjudged to have handled the ball outside the box when clearing from his hands - a harsh decision which was punished by Kilcock who put the resulting free kick into the roof of the net. Just a couple of minutes later the ball struck the referee when Kilcock were on the attack. The ref dropped the ball on the edge of the Naas box and with a clip over the top the Naas defence were caught napping and it was 2-0 after just 9 minutes.
Naas dusted themselves off and settled into the game and started to put some passing moves together looking threatening down both wings. They managed to pull a goal back through Kellum Finnegan with a long distance effort after some good high pressing by Mikey Danu and Adam Conroy. A couple of fine saves from Finn Dudley kept the minimum between the teams. Naas should have leveled when Conroy rounded the keeper but couldn’t get his attempt on target. Before the break Kilcock hit Naas with a sucker punch as they grabbed a third just before half time whistle.
With a couple of reminders of the game plan ringing in their ears Naas started the second half well and found the net when Adam Conroy finished well after a fine through ball from Peter McBride. As they pushed on for the equaliser they were caught loose at the back as Kilcock broke down the left and finished well into the corner.
Naas pushed forward in the closing stages and had a number of opportunities to score but couldn’t find the net. It’s been an inconsistent start to the premier league season for them and they take a break from league action next weekend as they head to Kildare Town for an SFAI Cup match.
