U8s game vs Yorkshire Ammers Reds
A brilliant Calcio performance returned a 12-3 victory against Yorkshire Ammers Reds.
The first third was pretty even, with neither side managing to score. Grayson pulled off some fantastic saves, while at the other end, we also had our fair share of chances. 0-0.
It was the second third where the goals started flowing, and it was actually Yorkshire Ammers that managed to find the net first. That seemed to spur Calcio into life, as Robin scored the first of his goals shortly afterwards. On his debut, Max scored two in this third, while Grayson got one and Robin another two, with assists coming from Grayson, Luca, and Will. Ammers also scored another, while Martin made some great saves, to leave the game 6-2 going into the final third.
The final third followed a similar pattern. Again, Calcio scored six goals, though this time Ammers only scored one, with Ted being a rock in net. The goals went to Martin, Max (2), Grayson, and Robin (2), whose second goal of the third was a fantastic free kick with his final kick of the game. Max and Theo grabbed the assists. Full time: 12-3.
While our opponents were undoubtedly weaker than last week, the marking on display was clearly much improved, and there were great moments of both individual and team play. In addition, the effort on display was fantastic, with the desire to get back and defend very pleasing to see. Max did fantastically on his debut, scoring four, all three goalkeepers played fantastically in net, and Robin not only scored five, but defended superbly, often intercepting the ball. Luca and Will gave the opposition no time and space on the wings, showed some lovely skill, and frequently connected well with teammates and played forward as we'd been working on in training. Martin played excellently, pressing his opposition fiercely, and looking a menace in front of goal. Grayson demonstrated both his 1v1 ability and his passing range, as well as scoring two, and Ted protected the ball well, won it back frequently, and made some flying saves.
Next week is another 9am kickoff, this time versus Leeds Riverside Elite. Hopefully see you all at training on Friday night.
