Ticket categories and price groups in SportMember
A ticket category defines a ticket type with its own name, price, and maximum quantity. You can create as many categories as you need: adult tickets, children's tickets, family passes, VIP access, standing room, or member prices. Each category can have its own price and its own limit on ticket quantity.
Price groups allow you to sell the same ticket type at different prices over time. Use early bird prices to reward those who buy early, and automatically switch to regular price when the early bird period expires. You can also offer discount codes that give special prices to selected buyer groups.
How ticket types and pricing work
When you create an event, you first define your ticket types. For each type, you specify name (e.g., "Adult", "Child 0-12 years", "Senior"), price, and optionally maximum number of tickets of this type. The system automatically tracks how many have been sold and stops sales when the limit is reached.
For early bird tickets, you specify both an early bird price and an end date. Until this date, customers can buy at the reduced price. When the date passes, the system automatically switches to regular price without you having to do anything. Everything happens automatically based on purchase time.
How to do it
- Go to your event and click "Ticket types" or "Create ticket type"
- Enter name of ticket category (e.g., "Adult", "Child", "VIP")
- Choose category: "Ticket" for regular tickets or "Add-on" for extra products
- Set price in your currency for this ticket type
- Optional: Set maximum number of tickets of this type
- Optional: Enable early bird price with reduced amount and end date
- Save and repeat for all your ticket categories
Why use different ticket categories and price groups
Different ticket categories and price groups make it possible to reach multiple target groups and maximize both revenue and attendance. Families with children are attracted to family discounts, students to lower prices, and VIP tickets appeal to those willing to pay extra for better experiences.
Early bird prices create incentive to buy early, giving you better overview of expected attendance long before the event. It also helps spread sales over time instead of everyone buying last minute. You can plan better and ensure a steady revenue stream.
