AFC Brooklands U13 Hawks vs Staines & Laleham Juniors U13 Colts

Starting formation 1433
First game back after the christmas break was always going to have some elements of rust.
AFC Brooklands started very well, passing the ball around neatly, looking very strong and scoring a well worked and well finished goal inside the first 5 minutes.
Staines then started to get hold of the game, dominating the ball and creating several half chances and guilt edge chances throughout the half.
Then a mix up from a goal kick allowed AFC Brooklands to pounce and go 2-0 up. Followed shortly by another defensive mix up resulting in Brooklands 3rd.
The half certainly did not feel like a 3-0 as Staines had control of the game.
At half time we spoke about taking charge of the individual errors and decided to put those to bed, we also changed formation to a front 2 to be more direct with a midfield diamond to link the strikers with midfeild. We also talked about what an incredible come back story this would be if we managed it.
We then started the 2nd half very strong, Ayaan causing chaos upfront and forcing the first goal which lifted the group.
The 2nd goal was followed shortly after from a corner, not defended clearly and Pat smashing the ball into the roof of the net.
Now Staines were flowing, Ayaan raced through mid way through the 2nd half slotting neatly into the far corner.
Joseph Watson then showed some neat footwork inside the opponents box before being brought down for a clear penalty.
He then stepped up and slotted the ball crisply past the keeper.
Staines had further chances to put the game to bed but you always know the other team would get a chance. Staines conceded a free kick on the corner of the box, which was whipped in, Tom slipped in goal hurting his knee but still somehow managed to get a fantastic strong hand to the ball allowing Staines to clear their lines.

A great comeback win in the end, but certainly things for me to coach.
Passing patterns from goal kicks to improve decision making
ball control in tight spaces
Understanding game management, when you are winning, run the clock down, dont cross balls into the box with minutes to go as you concede possession. Do our centre backs or defenders need to rush up the pitch when we are winning the game.

Overall - very proud of the attitude and charecter of the team, but i'll ensure I coach the above very hard this month to avoid being in those situations going forward.
