Boys U12 (2014) Prem - Kill Celtic Green
Match Report by Sean Ryan
A fiercely difficult afternoon defined by howling, disruptive winds saw Naas fall to a narrow defeat against a sharp Kill side. The elements played havoc with both teams' passing games.
Kill started the brighter of the two sides, using the wind at their backs to press early. Just three minutes in, Conor unlocked the Kill defense to play Harry through, though his crossed effort flashed just wide of the post. Kill continued to pile on the early pressure, forcing their second corner by the 5th minute.
Naas’s defense was pushed to the limit early on. In the 7th minute, Kill looked certain to score after being put clean through, but a phenomenal, perfectly timed shoulder tackle from Arthur saved a near-certain goal. Kill finally registered the game's first shot on target in the 11th minute when a shot from distance, forcing a smart save from Naas goalkeeper Oisin.
Naas began to find their footing around the 12th minute. Excellent link-up play down the wing between Arthur and Killian earned Naas their first corner. Shortly after, Killian found himself straight through on goal; he drifted inside to open up his preferred left foot but couldn't direct his shot on target, resulting in a goal kick.
The game grew increasingly physical. In the 17th minute, Kill won a dangerous free kick just outside the Naas penalty box following some sloppy defensive play, but the resulting strike lifted just over the crossbar.
The breakthrough finally came in the 27th minute. Kill launched a dangerous attack that Naas failed to clear properly. A powerful shot forced Oisin into a diving parry, but the rebound fell directly into the path of an oncoming Kill attacker, who slotted it home to make it 1–0. Kill finished the half on top, earning another corner in the 25th minute as Naas struggled to transition against the transition wind.
Looking to inject energy and combat the brutal wind conditions, Naas made a triple substitution at halftime. Sergio, Frankie, and Killian made way for Dylan, Felix, and Darragh .
The second half quickly devolved into a scrappy, back-and-forth midfield battle. The severe wind made controlled football nearly impossible, with both teams repeatedly overhitting passes directly out for goal kicks.
the half, Darragh used his pace to transition into the attacking third, forcing a Kill defender to cynically pull him down, resulting in a yellow card for the opposition. Moments later, Kill had another half-chance from range, but the shot sailed harmlessly over Oisin's crossbar.
Ultimately, Naas struggled to mount a sustained creative threat in the final third, looking uncharacteristically vulnerable and fatigued as the clock ticked down. Despite the defensive solidity shown by Arthur and the fresh energy from the bench, Naas couldn't find the quality required to breach Kill’s backline before the final whistle.
