Boys U10's Lightning - Exhall

A ‘Lightning’ fast start from the boys saw Daggy give us the lead in the 1st minute, from a Ralphie cross ball. From that moment on Stockton asserted their dominance on Exhall all over the pitch. Swarming forward repeatedly it was only a matter of time before more goals followed and it was Daggy again who got the 2nd following more great attacking play.
Albie was then cynically hacked down when clean through, but got up, dusted himself off and rocketed the resultant free kick into the top corner.
More pressure saw a fourth goal, as Daggy’s corner squeezed past the corner for his hat trick.
A sensational first half performance from the whole team. A special word for the defence who were alert and snuffed out everything that came at them, while showing composure and quality to get the ball down and start off attacks too.
We asked for more of the same 2nd half and the boys continued to dominate, Fin squeezed in a fifth, and if we had the benefit of VAR then Ralphie’s screamer into the top corner would have been a deserved sixth, however the ref didn’t seem to notice that the keepers efforts to parry it back out were clearly from behind the line.
Exhall created more chances as the half went on and Ernest stepped up with sure hands and great marshalling of his defence. It looked like back to back clean sheets was on the cards but a good strike from the edge of the area saw Exhall grab a consolation.
As it was a cup group game we finished with a penalty shoot out, used as a tie breaker in the potential event of teams finishing level. The boys also won that, partly thanks to more great goalkeeping from Ernest.
All in all another excellent team performance with stand out displays all over the park. They are making the player of the match decisions very hard for coaches and parents every week at the moment!
