U11 Calcio Talent & Select - U11 Pontefract Blue

We had a good start in the game, with a few chances that we created from our runs in behind. We used the pitch to our advantage as we looked to get in behind the opposition and utilised Will & Tom’s pace in behind the defence. We scored an excellent goal in the 12th minute, when Louie played a clever lofted pass into the path of Will, who slotted it past the keeper with good composure.

I asked our players to show more bravery in possession when playing out especially, which I felt we did after the first 20mins. The game was fairly even with both teams struggling to create loads of clear cut chances.

We defended bravely & with good aggression, winning a lot of duels. Nate, Joe & Seb did a great job at dealing with most of the Pontefract attacks, and they showed good composure at times when in possession to find the free player. Louie, Tom & Joe in midfield, were all over the pitch & complemented each other well in the middle of the pitch.

The opposition deservedly equalised in the last quarter as the game got stretched and we lost some control in the game. I was really impressed with our attitude to respond to the set back, as we counter attacked brilliantly. Milan showed great decision making to slot the ball through to Will, who managed to squeeze the ball over the GK, from outside the box. We then had a few more chances at the end of the game, with Will hitting the post, to just miss out on his hatrick. We had to defend well in the last 7mins & limited the opposition to many chances.

Overall, a positive performance & result, against a good side. I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas & New Year’s break 🎄
