U16 Calcio Talent and Select - U16 Chesterfield
The game started quite cagey, with both teams struggling to create many clear cut chances. The opposition had a lot of possession in their own half, but we made it difficult for them to create chances. The game completely changed however, when the opposition capitalised on a mistake at the back & tucked the ball in to make it 1-0. There were questions of the ball going out of play, and the referee sin binned 2 of our players for their reaction after the decision. Despite going down to 9-men for 12 minutes, we held our own and defended in a low block really solidly, the players gave everything and stopped the opposition even getting a clear chance in the 12mins. Once we were allowed 11 men back on the pitch, you could see a complete shift in momentum of the game. Our team pushed much higher up the pitch, and we made it really difficult for the opposition to play out of through us.
* Despite the error from our players, when their reaction after the decision. They both redeemed themselves in the 2nd half with a fantastic attitude to support the team, which they did brilliantly 👏🏻
The 2nd half we completely dominated the game, we created loads of chances. Our pressing at times was excellent - with our wingers tucking inside & wing backs being on the front foot to win the ball back. If we were more clinical we would have scored 4 or 5 goals in that 2nd half which would have killed the game. We did however, score 2 great goals, with a fantastic header from Rhyley & a tidy finish from Alfie at wing-back. Their 3rd goal came from us not getting out to the ball in front of our box, but a good finish nonetheless from the opposition player. We showed great character to once again come back, with a great pressing from Rhyley who stepped in and pinched the ball from behind before tucking the ball into the corner. Even after our equaliser we had a few chances to win the game at the end.
The fact we are disappointed not to win the game, despite loosing to the same opposition 4-1 only 8 weeks ago, shows how much progress this team has made.
