Kilcock Celtic v Naas AFC

A lovely fresh morning saw us travel to Kilcock to take on a side in good form. Since we last faced Kilcock they have played 2 won 2 while we have been sat with our feet up wanting a fixture and the game showed that, with Kilcock playing the far better football in the opening half. Naas were only playing in moments as lads looked to get back into rhythm while Kilcock were playing the ball around nicely. The Naas defence were under serious pressure but Ezekiel was in top form and prevented dangerous attacks from becoming more with some great tackles and timely interceptions. When Kilcock did manage to get beyond the defence they found Noah doing a good job minding the net.

The first attempt for Naas came after 15 mins when David’s cross come shot eluded both Jayden and the far post, the next came soon after when Frank beat 2 players before slotting in Fionn Nolan, Fionn got the ball out of his feet but his shot was well saved. Noah was next called into action as a corner was well met by a Kilcock attacker that Noah pushed away to his right. Kilcock got their deserved first after a throw in our defensive third was intercepted and crossed into the box where the centre forward had all the time in the world to leave Noah with no chance of a save. Just before half time we had our best move of the game, Louie, Fionn and Frank combined before find Luke but again the Kilcock keeper proved to be too good with a good save.

We hoped that would be the point to finally ignite a better performance but within three mins of the restart Kilcock had doubled their lead with a rasping shot into the top corner. Naas looked to respond and in the next 5 mins started to get on top but the Kilcock keeper was proving to be a thorn in our side as first he saved from Luke’s shot low to his right, then saving at the feet of Fionn Leonard Finnegan and finally stopping Frank after he’d been put through. Kilcock feeling the danger Naas were now possessing started to knoc the ball around and make us chase shadows, they were still probing to finish the game off but again the defence, lead well by Ezekiel and Dylan managed to repel them. With 5 mins remaining Sebastian got the ball in a centre right position, looked up and spotted Frank making a run, he put the perfect weight on the pass and this time Frank made no mistake as he rounded the keeper and slotting home. Our tails were truly up now and two mins later Noah collected a cross and immediately set Frank away down the left, Frank collected the ball and beat 2 players down the line before finding Fionn L.F. in space on the edge of the 6 yard box, Fionn’s touch was perfect and he coolly found the bottom corner beyond the advancing keeper.

A result that didn’t really match the performance but one we will gladly take. Onto next week
